Pretear Vol 1 Kaori Naruse Junichi Satou Books
I love Pretear and watched the anime so that's why I bought the manga. It is REALLY cute and sweet and the characters are quite different in costumes and behavior. (i.e. Kei doesn't cross-dress like he does in the anime). The only problem I had is that the drawing was faded and difficult to make out sometimes, like staring into a bright sun. That's why I gave it 3 stars, too much of a strain on my eyes!Tags : Amazon.com: Pretear, Vol. 1 (9781413901443): Kaori Naruse, Junichi Satou: Books,Kaori Naruse, Junichi Satou,Pretear, Vol. 1,ADV Manga,1413901441,Comics & Graphic Novels - Manga,Children's & young adult fiction & true stories,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Comics & Graphic Novels General,Fantasy,Graphic Novels,Manga - General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,Young Adult Fiction Comics & Graphic Novels Manga
Pretear Vol 1 Kaori Naruse Junichi Satou Books Reviews
I have never seen the anime, but after reading the first volume of the manga, I am definately intrested in this wonderful series known as Pretear. The main character is a girl called Himeno who is forced to adjust to a new family and her new duty as Pretear and protect all life on earth. Though she struggles, she tries her best to protect the people around her even if they don't always know or appreciate what she's done. Preatear is a lovely drawn series filled with heart touching emotions and comedy.
This book is better than the anime. I love to see the original art and storyline. If you are a die hard fan of the anime or just a casual manga reader, you will love this series. It is cute in a shoujo way, but it also has a very cool storyline that will keep you hooked. From cute bishounen to cute kids, the Leafe Knights alone will keep you coming back for more...)
When I saw Pretear back in October all I could do was wonder when the manga would come out. A lot of people thought it was gonna be a repeat of the anime or some butchering of it (like Tokita's Gundam Wing and G Gundam manga) but that is a far cry from the truth. the story line is completely original and frankly I like it better. It gives the deep characters even more depth to them, and the art is gorgeous. If you loved Pretear or any manga with bishies and strong female characters this is a must must must read and the differences between the anime and manga are fun. Also this book gives one more allusion to snow white than the anime did backing up the full title "New Legend of Snow White Pretear"
"The Princess of disaster will consume the leafe and everything will die. But it won't stop there. Warmth, light, sound, the movement of the air... it will all be consumed. The world will become empty. Will you join us and fight against the Princess of disaster ... as the Pretear... to save the world?"
Himeno Awayuki is a high school student adjusting to a new life. Her novelist father has remarried a woman who runs a cosmetic company. This new life transports Himeno from one room apartments to a life a luxury, with servants, posh mansions, and all the responsibility that goes with it. She also has two new stepsisters, Mayune who is in the tenth grade, and Mawata, who is in the eighth grade. Mayune can't stand the fact that Himeno and her father have been introduced into her life, and she is constantly taking out her aggressions on Himeno. On the way to school one morning Himeno encounters a little boy who stepped on a flower and wants to revive it. He asks to hold Himeno's hand, and when she acquiesces there is a burst of light and the flower grows. She passes out. Suddenly, she finds herself in a bed with a very handsome man standing over her and a posse of 6 others in tow, including the young boy. Confused, she gets along to school and later to her home, only to find the seven men there waiting for her.
The men are there for a reason, they need Himeno's help. As mentioned before, there is an evil Princess out to destroy the world, and she plans on doing this by sucking all of the life force, or in this case leafe, from all that exists. The only hope lies in a young woman becoming the Pretear, one who binds with each of the 7 men in order to heal the natural forces of the world. Shin is the young boy Himeno first met with, and he controls the leafe of the plants. Hajime controls the water, Kei controls the light. A man named Go controls heat, and Mannen, in turn, controls the cold. Sasame controls sound, and the final leafe knight, Hayate, controls the wind. Everyone is keen on Himeno becoming the Pretear save Hayate, who has unresolved issues with the last Pretear evidently. But Himeno decides to ignore him and become the hope of the world.
The series follows a typical "magic girl" storyline, even right down to the outfit changes whenever she is about to execute her powers as the Pretear. All of the men readily accept her as the savior except for the one who is obviously supposed to be the love interest. There are obstacles in the form of her sisters and stepmother, more like the sisters and stepmother from the Cinderella story than Snow White, but who's counting? I'm still waiting to see how all of the Snow White elements will evolve. It's an interesting idea for a magic girl story, but does not have many very original elements to it. The illustrations aren't the greatest either. The artist is clearly not a hack, but there's a lot more that could have been done to improve the quality. However, I wouldn't rule this out entirely as something unworthy of being read, and I think that many people probably would find it entertaining. I'm waiting to see how it goes before I render final judgment on it, and I'll even go so far as to rent the anime to see if it is one of those series that translates better to screen or not. I think fans of "Sailor Moon" or "Magic Knights Rayearth" would love this.
Himino is just a regular high school girl who lives in a mansion? Nah! Her father, Kaoru, was a writer for young girls novels. Natsue was a big fan of his and decided to marry him because she loved his books so much. Naturally Himino came to live with them along with her two stepsisters. Everyone's jealous of her, but do they really see what's happening? Her two sisters who grew up in a wealthy enviornment shun her, her "mother" treats her like a slave, and her father has no clue! (sounds a little like cinderella, huh?)
Then one morning after breakfast (himino's sisters already left in the limo) she races towards school because she's already running a little late. Suddenly, she accidently steps on a flower and is very sad to see it die. A little boy then comes out of the thicket and holds out his hand. Naturally Himiko takes it and the flower grows before her very eyes! Unfortunately it drains her of her energy, and when she comes to (yeah she fainted) a hansome stranger is leaning over her.
Hayate! Knight of Wind! The little boy who held out his hand was also a knight called a leafe knight. Leafe is the living force of everything, like an energy source for all that's good. There are seven leafe knights who have come to find the "pretear" or the one person who can create leafe to stop the red snow from falling. A couple of days ago it started snowing red snow, and only the leafe knights know what's going on. The princess of disaster has awakened. If the pretear is the giver of life the princess of disaster is the one who takes it away.
Himino and her seven knights must stop the princess of disaster before she destroys the world!
* This review is about the manga. The anime is somewhat different, actually. One of the knights looks totally different (Kei knight of light) and the story changes too! (for the worse) If you're just getting started with pretear I really recommend the manga BEFORE if EVEN the anime.
Great story with wonderful characters. A must read for fans of the Magical Girl genre.
